EXCEL LONDON TAKES STEP CLOSER TO NET ZERO
WITH MAJOR NEW INVESTMENT

Venue pledges decarbonisation commitment to transition to an electric and hybrid fleet

Excel London has moved a step closer to its net zero commitments by investing in a new fleet of hybrid plant machinery, in addition to switching to electric equipment where viable and procuring HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel.

The carbon neutral venue, part of ADNEC Group, now boasts a range of hybrid scissor and boom lifts, reducing fuel consumption and Scope 1 CO2 emissions.

As well the environmental benefits, the fleet’s reduced noise pollution also brings increased operational efficiency by negating impacts of event production and breakdown on live events running concurrently.

This recent investment – a six-figure sum – is the latest in a long line of sustainability initiatives by Excel to cut its emissions by 50% by 2030 and to become net zero by 2050. Last May, Excel switched from carbon-intensive white diesel to HVO fuel, a second-generation biofuel produced from renewable waste materials, saving more than 75 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Other schemes include a zero-waste-to-landfill policy, using 100% renewable electricity and housing one of the UK’s largest wormeries whereby more than 300,000 worms convert leftover food waste into compost for the venue’s green spaces.

Natalie Sykes, Excel’s dedicated Sustainability Manager, said: “As a signatory for the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge, Excel remains committed to measuring and reducing its carbon footprint, as well as helping to shape the future of events into one that is net zero, resource efficient and equitable. Such measures are fully supported by ADNEC, the Excel Board and the wider Excel team, and allows us to prioritise decarbonisation by investing in schemes such as our new hybrid fleet of scissor lifts.”
